RAP TECHNOLOGY IN PRACTICE

The use of processing technology, or the so-called asphalt concrete regeneration (RAP) in the reconstruction or construction of roads has long been a relevant global practice.

As part of the improvement of its own territories, Donaerodorstroy applied this method of reusing the materials of existing pavement in the territory of an asphalt concrete plant (ABZ).

The essence of RAP technology is the recycling of asphalt granulate, which is obtained by milling asphalt pavement in the reconstruction of roads.

To create a new roadbed on the territory of the company's plant, crushed stone of fraction 5-20 was used, obtained by breaking up the halyard.

In this case, the crushed old top layer of the road surface or the so-called wear layer was the asphalt granulate. The rate of its addition amounted to about 15% of the total mass of the fraction 5-20.

According to our experts, the cut halyard is passed through a special installation - a screen sieve, which sorts and sifts the crushed stone into fractions.

Next, the gravel of fraction 5-20 is transported and fed to the dryer drum through the recycling ring. There it is heated to certain temperatures and mixed with inert materials.

After that, the heated material comes from the dryer drum to a screen, dividing it into fractions. Upon completion of the dosing procedure, the resulting material is transferred to the mixer of the plant, where asphalt concrete is prepared.

The regeneration method allows you to reduce costs, while not compromising the quality of the road surface. Regenerated road mix is the most common and cost-effective method of restoring asphalt concrete paving, which provides the same high performance as a paving made entirely from new material.
